Aetiology of end-stage renal disease at the National Referral Hospital of Bhutan

Introduction: End stage renal disease (ESRD) is a late of chronic kidney (CKD) requiring dialysis or transplant to survive. growing problem worldwide. In Bhutan too, there are anecdotal evidence showing increasing number ESRD patients every year, which has become cause serious concern for the country. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study was conducted at National Referral Hospital Bhutan, from 2019 2020 find out aetiology in The demographic information and were collected past record patients. A total 202 eligible enrolled this study. Results: showed that mean age 47.3 ±13.20 years. majority 139 (68.8%) group 24-60 Of patients, 107 (53.0%) females. common aetiologies hypertension (HTN), glomerulonephritis (CGN) Diabetes Mellitus (DM) constituting 20.8%, 12.9%, 8.9% respectively. 50.0% unexplained. Conclusions: most HTN (20.8%), CGN (12.9%) DM (8.9%); remained middle group, with female predominance (53.0%).
